16.1 Operational Issues

Praxi foresees no known rendering issues in connection with the proposed  .praxi string which it is seeking to apply for as a gTLD. This answer is based upon consultation with Praxi’s preferred backend provider, Neustar, which has successfully launched a number of new gTLDs over the last decade. In reaching this determination, the following data points were analyzed:

- ICANN’s Security Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) entitled Alternative TLD Name Systems and Roots: Conflict, Control and Consequences (SAC009);

- IAB - RFC3696 “Application Techniques for Checking and Transformation of Names”

- Known software issues which Neustar has encountered during the last decade launching new gTLDs;

- Character type and length;

- ICANN supplemental notes to Question 16; and

- ICANN’s presentation during its Costa Rica regional meeting on TLD Universal Acceptance.

Praxi S.p.A. is a well-known Itan Management Consulting company in business for more than 45 years. The PRAXI brand is recognized and used worldwide to identify Praxi S.p.A. and a separate network of companies is grouped under the brand PRAXI ALLIANCE.

Praxi S.p.A. has registered its brand (a list of registered trademarks can be provided) and defends itself against third party trademark applications that could potentially be confused with, or that bear a close resemblance to Praxi S.p.A. In 2011 alone, Praxi S.p.A.  filed 10 oppositions (in Italy, Spain, France, Europe and the UK) against identical or similar trademark registration requests.

No lawsuit has ever been initiated against Praxi S.p.A. for illegal use of the Praxi brand, nor have any issues been raised against the praxi.com domain name.

  1. (OPTIONAL) Provide a representation of the label according to the International Phonetic Alphabet (http://www.langsci.ucl.ac.uk/ipa/).

Mission/Purpose

18(a). Describe the mission/purpose of your proposed gTLD.

18.a Mission ⁄ Purpose

Public registrations will NOT be made available and only Praxi S.p.A. and authorised partners⁄affiliates will be allowed to use second-level domain names within this TLD. Praxi S.p.A. views the activation of a TLD as a strong investment in its intangible assets. This strategy helps protect and control Praxi’s brand, strengthens Praxi’s reputation and credibility in the marketplace and increases its competitive advantage.

Praxi S.p.A. has been assisting private companies and public bodies to develop, improve and innovate their organizations since 1966. With share capital of Euro 6 million, Praxi’s organizational structure includes 250 permanent employees across the following four operating divisions: Management Consulting, Information Technology, Valuations and Appraisals and Human Resources.  Praxi S.p.A. operates out of ten offices: Bologna, Brescia, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Padua, Rome, Torino and Verona.

Praxi S.p.A. consists of more than 10 business units, which have been carefully developed over the past forty five years and enjoy strong brand recognition in Italy and Europe, as well as numerous registered trademarks for proprietary products and services. Individual business units, products and services will be assigned to the TLD .praxi (e.g. executive.praxi, alliance.praxi, humanresources.praxi, 4people.praxi, etc.) as a further measure of protection against outside parties attempting to encroach upon Praxi’s intellectual property and enjoy the benefits of its reputation.

Praxi Alliance extends Praxi Executive‘s brand globally through its worldwide network of specialized Executive Search and HR Consulting firms.

As a result of this segmentation and protection, Praxi’s brand and reputation will benefit from the following: a more nuanced, multi-dimensional presentation that highlights individual business units and products, a heightened consumer awareness of Praxi’s dedication to internet security and further reinforcement and proof of Praxi’s corporate slogan, “A partner for innovation and development”.

At the international level, Praxi S.p.A. will offer Praxi Alliance Members use of the Praxi S.p.A. domain in their respective countries as an additional, non-commercial membership benefit. The current network is composed of small to mid-sized independent executive search firms located in Europe and Asia. Members’ local credibility will benefit from being affiliated with a well-established management consulting firm in possession of a TLD. In addition, Member visibility and brand recognition can be enhanced by the improved positioning in search results afforded by a TLD .praxi.

In general, the ability to protect Praxi’s brand, fine tune marketing and branding activities and provide value-added services to our partner firms will improve Praxi’s competitive advantage in the marketplace.

18(b). How do you expect that your proposed gTLD will benefit registrants, Internet users, and others?

18.b  Benefit

  1. Goals

- Areas of specialty – Praxi S.p.A. is a management consulting firm and will use its TLD to increase brand recognition and reputation across all business units.

- Service levels – Praxi S.p.A. will offer use of its TLD to trusted partners, significantly increasing the calibre of its service offering.

- Reputation – Praxi’s reputation as a “partner in innovation and development” will be significantly strengthened with the addition of a TLD, which is an important seal of approval for any technologically-minded firm. A TLD also reinforces Praxi’s commitment to the protection of intellectual property, one of Praxi’s key business units.

  1. Addition to the current space: competition, differentiation or innovation

- Competition: early adoption of a TLD puts Praxi S.p.A. at the forefront of technological change, which is critical for the long-term growth of Praxi’s multi-business, technology-centric business model. A TLD will help Praxi S.p.A., a medium-sized firm by Italian standards, level the playing field with respect to large multi-national firms and compete for clients that were previously unapproachable.

- Differentiation: a TLD is an effective way to make a strong first impression on site visitors and truly differentiate Praxi S.p.A. from other management consulting firms.

- Innovation: Praxi S.p.A. views a TLD as a tool with the potential to stimulate new business intelligence, educational, training and communications initiatives. There are a variety of online services that Praxi S.p.A. could offer to clients and partners that would be enhanced by a TLD .praxi. These include a Praxi Alliance platform to facilitate partner collaboration through document sharing, data submission portals, job postings, and membership application and fee portals; a reserved mini-site for Executive Search clients to provide them with a more discrete, technology-driven search process, utilizing video conferencing technology, CV submission capabilities and a status updates on pending search assignments; and, our public competitions registration process could be further automated and would certainly benefit from the seal of approval afforded by a TLD .praxi.

  1. User experience

Customers will come to recognise officially endorsed websites that are part of the Praxi S.p.A. group. Users will be able to locate services and business units in a more direct, intuitive fashion. More importantly, for visitors unfamiliar with the Praxi brand, the presence of a TLD will imply that Praxi S.p.A. is committed to internet security and also a brand to be trusted.

Praxi S.p.A. is heavily involved in public competitions, which require that potential candidates be provided access to a highly secure, protected website. By the same token, Praxi’s HR Division relies upon candidates’ willingness to submit private, confidential information online. The presence of a TLD will signal to applicants that their personal data is being transmitted and⁄or handled safely.

  1. Registration policies

Public registrations will NOT be made available. Only Praxi S.p.A. and authorised partners ⁄ affiliates will be allowed to use domain names within this TLD.

Praxi S.p.A. will institute a code of conduct or standards policy that TLD .praxi users will need to accept and sign prior to publishing the domain. As an example, the policy will require that users not spread malware or spam and that they only engage in activities that protect the interest of the Internet and the community.

  1. Confidentiality

The TLD .praxi will be for internal, non-commercial use only and Praxi S.p.A. does not anticipate a need for additional confidentiality measures beyond the standard Italian policies required by law.

  1. Outreach and communications

The TLD will be used for internal, non-commercial purposes only. However, regular communications with clients and trusted partners about the initiative will accelerate our ability to innovate, differentiate and increase the calibre of our service offerings.

18(c). What operating rules will you adopt to eliminate or minimize social costs?

18.c Describe operating rules to eliminate or minimize social costs or financial resource costs, various types of consumer vulnerabilities.

Praxi S.p.A. will be the only entity registering names in the .praxi TLD.  The process for registering domains internally within Praxi S.p.A. will require approval by Praxi’s TLD Approvals Committee and adherence to all ICANN policies regarding acceptable domain names. The entire decision process will be supported by an existing internal workflow software application used to handle IT support functions.

Praxi S.p.A. intends to control the TLD .praxi and second-level domains by putting in place the following operating protocols:

 - A web portal for the collection of reports and notices of potential abuse and⁄or incorrect usage of the domain; the dashboard portal will be managed and monitored by the .praxi domain technical staff;

 - Information accessible to staff that delineates the active second-level domain addresses and the names of the respective business unit managers (name and email address);

 - Publication of internal policies for the proper use of the second-level domain;

 - Immediate suspension in the case of improper use.

In conjunction with the above protocols, the registration process will be as follows:

  1. The manager of the respective business unit makes a request to open a new second-level domain utilizing a designated form made available on the Praxi intranet. The following data is required: the proposed name of second-level domain, the business unit making the request, a description of the motivations, a market analysis and presentation of potential returns in terms of brand image and visibility, and the person within the business unit responsible for  handling all required activities related to the second-level domain.

The intranet, which is connected to the second-level domains database, then runs a check of the name’s availability.

  1. The request to open a new second level domain is forwarded and examined by the following members of Praxi’s TLD Approvals Committee:
  2. TLD Administrator: to verify consistency with the Division’s objectives;
  3. Praxi S.p.A. Marketing Manager: to verify the feasibility in terms of communications and evaluate potential alternatives;
  4. Technical support representative: to verify that the requested name is ICANN-compliant;

  1. If the proposed second-level name is approved by all of the members of the TLD Approvals Committee, the designated technical support individual initiates the opening of the second-level domain at Praxi’s registrars.

  1. After registration, the technical support representative updates the Praxi S.p.A. intranet and notifies the business unit managers and requester via email that the second-level domain is available.

Praxi’s TLD Appeals Committee, consisting of Praxi’s Board of Directors, will convene and act to address any concerns or internal disputes about domain names that are raised by members of the TLD Approvals Committee or other involved parties.

As Praxi S.p.A. will not be selling domain names, there are no pricing commitments to consider.
